The Champion Team:

Stuart Wilson, MSPT

Physical Therapist

Why am I a physical therapist?

I was plagued by ankle sprains in High School and College. I remember going to a physical therapist and having him explain exactly what was happening and how this injury was continuing to take me out of my game. In his evaluation, he educated me on the anatomy and injury, the biomechanics of my sport, and about the healing process. His knowledge and expertise got me back into the game. I knew then that I wanted to be that guy, the person to get people back into their game; whether it be sports, work, play, or life.

Why did I start Champion Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy?

To create the same type of physical therapy clinic that I would want to go to. I asked myself, “where would I want to go, how would I want to be treated, what would I want to gain from my physical therapist”. In addition, I asked “what part of the profession do you love the most, what do you see people needing the most”. The  answer to these is Champion Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, LLC.

Continuing Education:

“Knowing is not enough, we must apply; willing is not enough, we must do.” (Bruce Lee) My continuing education history has been a collection of manual therapy, sports performance, and functional training background. The foundation of my philosophy is based upon the Functional Medicine approach founded by Gary Gray, and the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy- an eclectic approach to problem solving and manual therapy. I have taken many courses and researched sports performance and enhancement for specific sports such as Road & Mountain Biking, Running, and Ice Hockey. I plan to obtain my Manual Therapist Certification, continue to build upon the strong cycling program, and develop my knowledge and skills regarding other sport specific programs.

Professional & community activities:

I have been an APTA Orthopedic and Sports Sections member since 1997. I volunteered for the Steamboat Soap Box Derby Committee 2002-2003. I was a member of the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club 2002-2003.

Personal Interests:

I love to mountain or road bike, play ice hockey and soccer, snowboard, snow shoe, hike, camp, take my dogs Kona and Kea for walks, laugh with friends, eat pizza, and to truly have a good life.

What patients have said:

“I really liked how you treated the cause, not just the symptom”.

“You did a great job explaining to me what was going on and what to do for it”.

“I should have gone to you sooner”.
